National Directorate The Judiciary Police, through the Criminal Information Unit, located and arrested, in the Santarém area, a foreign citizen in compliance with a European arrest warrant issued by the judicial authorities of Greece, suspected of committing the crimes of kidnapping and qualified bodily harm, which occurred in April 2022, in the city of Athens. The individual, now detained, together with other accomplices, kidnapped the victim, keeping them tied up in an apartment to which they had been taken against their will. During the time they were held there, the victim was violently beaten with the aim of forcing them to pay a seven-thousand-euro ransom. Taking advantage of a moment of distraction by the attackers, the victim managed to contact an acquaintance by phone, providing details of their location. Following this information, police authorities went to the apartment and freed the victim. The 36-year-old detainee will be presented today to the Évora Court of Appeal for the application of a coercive measure.
